Final Exam

                                    Communications Technology TGJ 3M1

                                                                              

This project will represent 30% of your final mark and can be considered your final exam. Each group will be given about 4 weeks to complete and present the finished product to the class.

   

                                                    Due Date: January 21, 2005

                                              Presentations: January 25/26, 2005

                                                                           


The purpose of this exam is for you to demonstrate and bring together the skills and knowledge learned over the past semester in Comm Tech. These include a number of concepts ....editing, storyboarding, video production, audio production, group interaction, web cite design, photo editing etc.



                                        Components of the Final Project


 

1.         PRE-PRODUCTION

            a.         each group will present me with an official proposal letter which must contain the following:

                        i.         company logo

                        ii.        company address

                        iii.       group member's names

            b.        each group must complete a "production planner"

            c.         each group must submit a "responsibilities and deadlines" form before production of the video

2.         PRODUCTION Documentary / Mocumentary

            a.         between 3 - 5 minutes in length

            b.        contain 100% original footage

            c.         contain your company logo

            d.        contain opening and closing credits which include the names of group members, the teacher, the client, and the school

            e.         include voice over narration as required

            f.         contain at least one of the following: animation, graphics, special effects, original music

            g.         be suitable for public viewing (no obscenities)

            h.        contain proper lighting, audio, and video ....must be broadcast quality

 

            *the positions of director, camera-operator, lighting and audio personnel, and production assistants must be filled by members of your group ...talent may come from outside of your group


 

3.         POST PRODUCTION

            a.         Company web cite designed to promote your documentary

            b.        Movie poster

            c.         Presentation

VIDEO PRODUCTION

 

4.         Camera Work

            a.         video quality (correct white balance, proper framing, steady camera shots, etc)

            b.        variety of shots (pans, tilts, CU, WS, LS, MS, etc)

5.         Audio

            a.         how music is cut to video (does it fit?)

            b.        is narration relevant to visuals on screen?

            c.         quality of audio

15 marks

 

6.         Lighting /Props/Costumes

            a.         appropriate for mood of video

            b.        quality and variety of lighting

5 marks

 

7.         Log Sheet/Edit Decision List

            a.         complete and accurate

5 marks

 

8.         Editing

            a.         clean edits

            b.        no jump cuts

            c.         do visuals match the words (timing of edits)

            d.        follows a logical sequence

30 marks

 

9.         Closing Credits

            a.         minimum 30 seconds

            b.        must contain credits for:

                        i.         all group members

                        ii.        company logo

                        iii.       teacher

                        iv.       school

                        v.         client

POST PRODUCTION

10.       Web Design

            a.         contains all necessary information

            b.        appeals to target market

            c.         fits the mood of the video

11.       Poster

            a.         contains all necessary information

12.       Presentation

            a.         must be 15-20 minutes in length

            b.        all members must participate

            c.         was the group professional

            d.        did the presentation have a beginning/middle/end

            e.         did the audience understand the presentation

            f.         was there audience interaction

            g.         originality of presentation

13.       Participation/Daily Work Habits

            a.         how you work within the group

            b.        actually doing work each and every day

            c.         being to class on time and in uniform

            d.        helping to tape, edit, etc.

            (simply being in class does not get you these marks...you are expected to be working on this project each and every day!!!)
